Inauguration of 3-day International Environment Olympiad (IEO-2021)


 

Lucknow, January 19 : The 3-day International Environment Olympiad (IEO-2021) organized by City Montessori School, Gomti Nagar Campus II, was formally inaugurated this evening by the Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Dr Dinesh Sharma amidst a colourful educational-cultural programme held online. Addressing the participants and guests on this occasion, Dr Dinesh Sharma said that apart from imparting quality education to the students, CMS is also a pioneer in awakening social consciousness on important subjects like the environment and preparing its students for tomorrow. He expressed his happiness that CMS has organized this olympiad on a very important subject which will prove to be crucial in making India a developed nation. It may be mentioned that students from many countries of the world including Germany, Jordan, Russia, USA, Canada, Ireland, UAE, Sri Lanka, Nepal and several states of India are participating in the online IEO-2021.

            The IEO-2021 inauguration began on the virtual platform with the School Prayer followed by the All Religion and World Peace Prayer. A spectacular World Parliament was also staged in which the students, acting as the representatives of various countries, held discussion on complex global problems. The motivational cultural programme comprising Indian folk songs and dances disseminated the message of world unity and world peace, enthralling the audience with their lustre. In his address delivered on this occasion, the CMS Founder and renowned educationist, Dr Jagdish Gandhi said that there is a great need for active cooperation of the people to keep the environment clean. This olympiad will play an important role in making the adolescents and younger generation aware of their obligations towards the environment. CMS President, Prof. Geeta Gandhi Kingdon said that in this crucial period, when we are facing the threat of global warming and climate change, it is necessary to introduce students and the younger generation to the challenges the environment is facing, so that the future generations know their responsibilities towards Mother Earth. The Senior Principal of CMS Gomti Nagar Campus II and Convenor of International Environment Olympiad (IEO-2021), Ms Manjit Batra; Co-Convenor and Principal of CMS Gomti Nagar Campus II, Mrs Sangeeta Banerjee and Coordinator of CMS Cambridge Section, Mrs Sushama Rajkumar also expressed their views on the occasion.

            Chief Public Relations Officer of CMS, Mr Hari Om Sharma informed that various interesting competitions are being organized for the participants from India and abroad during the 3-day international event. These include, Recycle for Life Cycle (Model Making), The Hue Story (Art Designing), Fantasy Carnival (Mask Making), Ecosperity (Garment designing), Spread Your Wings (Choreography), Ode to Nature (Elocution), Website Design Competition, Imagineering My Future (Re-designing the Globe), Mysteries of Nature (Environment Quiz), Winds of Change (Future Friendly School) and Shutter and Quill (Shoot out) etc. The competitions at IEO-2021 will begin tomorrow from 10.00 am, he informed.
