CMS Inter-Campus Chess Tournament 'Chaturanga-2023' kicks off to a fine start


 

Lucknow, 19 July : The two day Inter-Campus Chess Tournament ‘Chaturanga’ organized by CMS Rajendra Nagar Campus I got off to a grand start this morning at the CMS Rajendra Nagar Campus. Encouraged by the presence of CMS President and Managing Director, Prof. Geeta Gandhi Kingdon, the players took their places and the matches started. Senior State Chess Champion and Chief Guest Dr Junaid Ahmed lit the lamp of learning to inaugurate the event. Addressing the players, the Chief Guest said that this sports event is a great way to unleash the hidden potential of the students and a golden chance to bring forward the talented players. It will give the country some of its most talented sportspersons who would one day bring glory to India at international level. It will increase the mental ability of students and help them climb up on the ladder of success. CMS President and MD, Prof. Geeta Kingdon said that CMS students are not only earning laurels in academics but also winning medals in games and sports, thus bringing name and fame to Lucknow. Through their active participation in such sports as chess, they are adding to their logical ability, competitive skills, sharpness of mind and wisdom in judgement. 

            Earlier, CMS Rajendra Nagar students presented a beautiful variety programme with music and dance at the inaugural ceremony. The audience was bewitched to watch the creative and musical abilities of the students. At this inter-campus chess event, all 21 CMS campuses including 400 chess players are participating in different categories. This unique and royal game of checks and defeats was watched with great interest by the students.

            After the colourful inaugural ceremony, the actual matches started in which students of primary, junior and senior classes displayed their talent to the fullest.  At this two-day event, the preliminary round and the quarter finals were held on the first day of the tournament. In the primary boys’ category, Jagnoor Singh, Rishit Das, Harshit Srivastava and Swarn Kumar secured their places for the semi-finals, while in the primary girls’ category, Bhavika Mishra, Arohi Diwan, Raj Shikha and Sanvi Srivastava secured their place for the semifinals. Similarly, in the junior boys’ category, Shreshtha Chaurasia, Sharansh, Arav Yadav and Shorya Narain reached the semi-finals, while among the junior girls’ Ananya Singh, Atulya Tripathi, Aravya Yadav and Shri Gantika Saho reached the semi-final round after winning the initial games.  In the senior boys’ category, Abheeshth Khare, Arnav Nigam, Ashutosh Wal and Ashvary Singh secured their places for the semi-final round and similarly, in the senior girls’ category, Sanskriti, Anvesha, Anvesha Tiwari and Siddhi Kesarwani won a place for themselves in the semi-final round after defeating their opponents in the quarter final. 

            Senior Principal of CMS Rajendra Nagar Campus I and Convenor of the Chess Tournament, Mrs Jayshree Krishnan welcomed the participants and guests saying that this game of chess has a long history and it tests the confidence, diplomacy and analytical abilities of the players.
