CMS students make strong appeal for Groundwater Conservation

Lucknow, 16 July : Students of various campuses of City Montessori School made a strong appeal for Conservation of Groundwater by taking out a Groundwater Awareness March with great enthusiasm and earnestness. The March was organized jointly by the UP Groundwater Department and WaterAid India. The students assembled at 1090 crossing in Gomti Nagar for the huge March and were given a flag-off by the Minister for Jal Shakti, Shri Swatantra Dev Singh. It may be mentioned that the state government is observing Groundwater Conservation Week from 16 to 22 July 2024 during which the general public will be sensitized and made aware of the pressing need to preserve and save groundwater. This year, the theme of Groundwater Week is “Jal Jeevan ka Karo Prayaas, Jal hi Jeevan ki Aas.”

CMS students participating in this Groundwater Preservation March held placards with slogans on saving groundwater and water harvesting that sent a clear message that touched the hearts of the citizens of Lucknow and called for quick action as depleting amounts of groundwater could bring about infertility, barrenness and desertification of land and damage agriculture. The placards read ‘Save Water, Save Future’, Water is life & its Conservation our Future,’ ‘Bright Future begins with Clean Water’, ‘Water is Life’,’Save Water’, Collect the rain, ‘If you save water, water will save you,’ and thus ignited the desire to do something worthwhile to save water especially ground water. Children also raised their voice not to use polythene bags, not to throw rubbish in rivers and ponds, plant maximum number of trees and other such ways to save the environment from pollution.

CMS Public Relations Officer Mr Rishi Khanna said that CMS has always taken the initiative in organizing projects and measures for social upliftment and socially useful drives and this Awareness March is a step in the same direction. CMS believes that such initiatives must not be restricted to schools and social service organizations only, in fact, every conscientious individual and every citizen must become an active participant in it.
